Description
In this course, the students will learn the fundamentals of robotics and the applications for robots in the underwater world.
As a team, students will design and construct an undersea (under lake) Remotely Operated Vehicle or ROVer. The ROVer will be about a two-foot cube in size, and will be built from common PVC plastic. The ROVer will be fully submergible in lakes or pools and be able to travel below 30 ft depths in daylight or at night. The ROVers will use on-board video cameras and full motion controls. Students will learn to navigate underwater without familiar landmarks. The class will test the ROV during a field trip to a near-by lake.

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
$240 + $20 materials fee
Note: Only one complete ROV will be built in this workshop, but students who wish, may take the designs home and build their own versions of the ROV – but they must purchase those materials themselves. Each ROV costs about $300 to fully complete. this covers materials, motors, controller, camera system, and battery.
If you would like to build your own ROV, please indicate this in your registration. The deadline for this decision is 30 days prior to the first day of the workshop. Once you have indicated you would like to build your own ROV, Dr. Vogt will provide you with a shopping list. Even if you build your own, the materials fee for the class will still be due.
