Description
Amazing Power Generation
Learn all about power production, and get hands-on experience that will SAVE YOUR LIFE someday (or at least power your cell phone or tablet in an emergency). In this day-long camp students will visit a local 1.2 MW wind generator and solar power array, and then build their own functioning wind and solar power-generation systems. They will learn how these forms of energy are converted to our daily use and how they will protect our planet Earth’s non-renewable resources. All students will participate in the fabrication of both systems and will learn and use of common hand tools. They will also apply MATH to determine how much power can be generated. Plan to create our own STEM Adventure Club Video – Diabolical Death Ray episode.
Dr. Michael Vogt
Dr. Vogt is a career professional research scientist from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories. He and colleagues from Western Kentucky University (WKU) are testing out new curriculum approaches to reveal STEM’s role in the surrounding world. These are being implemented by Dr. Vogt at Cyprus to develop our students' appreciation of and skills in these areas at a younger age, and to encourage their study and potential STEM career paths.
Ages 8-12
Friday, August 19th 9:00 am - 4:00 p.m.
Cost: $125
Discounted rate for students who will be spending the entire week at CSMA's Summer Program: $75
